Urban Bike Rides from KnoxTrans May 17, 10 a.m. Get Outdoors Bike Ride In conjunction with the Get Outdoors Festival at World’s Fair Park, this bike ride will showcase the new Lower Second Creek Greenway connection to Neyland Greenway, and also feature other City parks where people can “get outdoors.” This will include Tyson Park and the new skate park. KnoxRevolution is helping with this ride. June 28, 9 a.m. Blooms and Bikes Ride This ride will be held in conjunction with the Blooms Day Festival at UT Gardens. The route is TBD. People will be invited to decorate themselves and/or their bicycles with a flower/plant theme. There will be ice cream sundae station for participants after the ride, and they are invited to attend Blooms Day as well (it is free this year). July 12, 9 a.m. Tour de Knoxville The Smoky Mountain Wheelmen, will be hosting this one. There will likely be a Tour de France theme because that will be going on at the same time. However, it will still be clear that this ride is beginner-friendly. August 9, 9 a.m. Scavenger Hunt This will be our second annual Scavenger Hunt, which was very popular last year. The theme of the hunt will be local history in and around downtown. |

Iowa's Crawford County Bans
RAGBRAI The Register's Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, America's most popular cross-state ride, has been banned in Crawford County because of a lawsuit settlement linked to a fatal accident in 2004. The front wheel of a RAGBRAI participant named Kirk Ullrich caught a gap in the road, causing him to crash. The family settled with Crawford County for $350,000. The county then notified RAGBRAI that the riders would no longer be welcome. Officials explained that county roads are maintained for motor traffic, not bicycle traffic. Their resolution stated that allowing RAGBRAI and other cycling activity events may put the county at risk for more lawsuits.
